9 Days Climbing Kilimanjaro, Using Machame Route.

This route is known as the most scenic climbing route for Mount Kilimanjaro.  Here you follow a trail around the mountain as you enjoy various spectacular views, for instance, Barranco wall and Maasai Mara plains. Passing the Shira Plateau and the Lava Tower, you will also come close to various wildlife species and get to see how they behave in their natural habitat. We have a team of staff not only giving you company up the mountain, but also offering services and assistance in different ways. These include professional climbing guides, cooks and porters.

Your pulse rate will be checked daily for health safety purposes even as you go up. Oxygen saturation is also checked to ensure you don’t harm yourself at the expense of leisure. Once we have your booking confirmed, we will send you a comprehensive Packing List for the climb.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport – Moshi

Once you land at the Kilimanjaro International Airport, yourt tour guide will come pick you and take you to your hotel. This specialist will help you settle fast answering some of your introductory questions and at least help you get what it means to say, ‘Hujambo.’ Just relax and get ready for the climb the next morning. In case you would need a second day to rest, let us know so that we plan that for you. We recommend that you have an adequate time to rest- it increases your chances of managing to climb to the summit. Your hotel expenses are catered for, except for the first and last day. These two are left free so as to give you some liberty to explore and have a personal choice on where to be. The itineraries include bed and breakfast (@ $40 per person) on the basic package. In case, you would prefer more luxury, we can get you a more luxurious hotel still in Moshi.

Day 2 - Machame Gate to Machame Camp (Elevation- 1,200m / 3,935ft)

We will send you a guide who will pick you from your hotel at Moshi in the morning. Your morning drive will end at Machame Gate where your climb will start. Immediately you are done with registration, we set off towards Machame Camp. The first day takes you through green forest in the beauty of nature. This will however change as you move up. The green forest will turn more to heathers as you approach the camp. In about 6 to 7 hours you will find yourself right at the Machame Camp.

Day 3 - Machame Camp to Shira Camp (Elevation - 840 meters/ 2,760 feet)

Today the distance up is shorter with a whole 360 meters. At the beginning, we will trek up a steep hill up to the Picnic Rock, a semicircular cliff. From here you will be able to enjoy the views of, Shira Plateau, and Kibo, the peak of the mountain. It is where we will have the lunch. After lunch, we continue heading up and we get at Shira Camp in 5 to 6 hours.

Day 4 - Shira Camp to Barranco Camp (Elevation gain- 710m / 2,329 ft, Loss- 700m / 2,296 ft)

Today, you will ascend eastward up to the Lava Tower. This takes 4 hours. From Lava Tower, you will then descend back down for 1 to 2 hours until you get to the Barranco Valley. This is an important exercise to help your body acclimatize. Found at the feet of the Barranco Wall, this valley is the most beautiful campsite along the route.

Day 5 - Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp (Elevation- 750m / 2,460 ft)

The challenge is now getting tougher. In the morning, you take your breakfast and start your up following the Barranco wall direction. Be ready to use your hands if need be as the trek might require that. It is the most adventurous part of the journey- adventure lovers will enjoy the manoeuvre. From the top of Berranco Wall, you will have spectacular views, such as Mount Meru and Kibo. You will now trek around the mountain before starting down through Karanga Valley up to Barafu Camp. Here you will have a clearer view of the mountain peaks, Mawenzi and Kibo. At this point, all you will do is have dinner and relax to head to the summit come next day.

Day 6 - Barafu Camp (4,600 m./ 15,100ft) to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m./ 19,340ft) then to Mweka Camp (3,110 m./ 10,170ft)- Elevation gain: 1,295 m / 4,240 ft, Loss: 2,785 m / 9,170 ft

This is the final climb; the ascend will start at midnight taking you 6 to 8 hours to get to the mountain peak. Here, the trail is very steep, but the good thing is that you have come to the Stella Point successfully. You now move gradually to Uhuru Peak, the highest point of Kilimanjaro. You made it, Congratulations! This is a time to celebrate your victory, as you watch the sun set from the highest point in Africa. Done with the celebration? We now head down, 6 hours to Mweka Camp. Here you will have a reward in form of a delicious meal.

Day 7 - Mweka Camp (3,110 m./10,170 ft) to Mweka Gate (1,830 m./ 6000 ft) then to Moshi (Elevation loss: 1,280 m / 4,199 ft)

Today you conclude your climb at Mweka Gate. The journey down starts immediately after breakfast. Through the Kilimanjaro Forest, you are likely to come across monkeys hoping from tree to tree. In 2 to 3 hours, you will be right at Mweka Gate. The climb is officially over! Our driver will transfer you back to Moshi, to your hotel.

Day 8/9 - Moshi to the Airport

Today, we chose to have nothing programmed for you to give you a good time to relax after the exhaustive adventure up Kilimanjaro. You can do some exploration in Moshi before your departure time in the evening. You can also decide to extend your visit and have a Tanzanian Safari, or you can decide to retreat on one of our beautiful islands, for example Zanzibar Island.
