9 Days Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro Using the Lemosho Route

9 day climbing Mount Kilimanjaro using the Lemosho route has been touted as one of the most breath taking experiences by tourists who flock yearly into Tanzania to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.

The area is covered with beautiful scenic landscape expansive lands covered with green lush vegetaton and a god view of the formation of the Kilimanjaro slopes as you ascend.

Though Lemosho route is the longest among the others, tour guides taking you on the trail often prefer Lemosho over the other routes owing to; it has fewer people on the trail as compared to the other routes. then secondly, the success rate of ascending to the peak has been much higher as compared to the other routes used.

Climbing up the mountain you will be assisted by our experienced mountain climbing guides  and porters who will come in handy in carrying your luggage. Cooks to help in cooking during the duration on the mountain will also be part of the team.

Tour Itinerary

Arrival Day - Moshi -Kilimanjaro

Tourist are advised to plan two days or three prior to the start of climbing the mountain to enable them have some time to rest and acclimatize with the local climate. On arrival guest are booked in a hotel of their choice where they rest as they prepare for the ascend. Hotel bookings for accommodation during the period will be favourable and will not be overcharged.

Day 2 - Pick Up from the Hotel to Lemosho point.

Tour guides will drive you to Londorossi. This is on the west side of the Mount Kilimanjaro climbing ascent. At this point all formalities are done then the drive Lemosho start point which is 2000m 562 feet. The walk is a bit steep where on the trail you will see some wild game such as; the buffalos, Colobus monkeys among others with no firece animals. This walk will take three hours upto the first camp site.

Day 3 - Big Tree Camp (2,800 m./9186ft) to Shira 2 Camp (3,800 m./12,467 ft)

On the next phase climbers cover an elevation of 1000 meters which is like 3280 feet in 7-8 hours over a steep trail. The path is covered with moorland vegetation and volcanic rocks which will require alot of caution on the part of the climbers. From this site, one can have a good view of Shira ridge a volcanic summit among the three found Kilimanjaro and lying by the Kibo summit. There will be several breaks along the climbing trail for rest and refreshments for the tourists then ultimately win up the day at Shira camp 2.

Day 4 - Shira Camp 2 (3,800 m./12,467 ft) to Barranco Camp (3,850m/12,631 ft)

On this part of the trek there will be an elevation gain of 750 meters as well as a loss of 700 meters. The trek walk takes 4 hours along the desert towards a 300 meters volcanic lava tower. The afternoon walk takes you 1 to 2 hours to the Barranco valley which is a loss in elevation covered earlier.

Day 5 - Tarangire National Park

Touring Tarangire National Park is a full-drive-day. The journey will start immediately after a sumptuous breakfast. Although this is one of the parks that are not widely known in the world, the park offers you an authentic and exciting tour atmosphere. Call this third day. As our executive tour vans journey over the hilly landscape, lofty Baobab trees and the blue sky consume you into a wander world technically reducing the distance with up to a third. Here, you will be enjoying awesome views of herds of elephants, with some moving in groups of about 300. This is common around Tarangire River where elephants ‘meet-up’ for a drink or just to refresh in a mud bath. Other animals such as Leopards, Lions and Cheetahs are also available in Tarangire, not to mention Pythons. The bird-lovers (I wonder who isn’t) are more than taken care of in this same park. It has uncountable bird species giving you a whole paradise of dissimulation of birds- it’s a beautiful sight.

Day 6 - Barranco Camp (3,850 m./12,631 ft), via Karranga Camp (3,950 m./12,959 ft) to Barafu Camp (4,600m / 15,091 ft)

Climbing on this section takes a gain in height of 750 meters. The section is characterized by beautiful views and one of the most enjoyed parts of the entire climbing experience by tourists. Circulating through, mount Meru can be viewed from the top on the right while on the life the spectacular view of Kibo stands, a beautiful site to behold. Climbing across the slopes for a duration of between 8 to 10 hours, you will arrive at the Barafu camp under the Kiimanjaro summit. Other climbers prefer to have this phase 2 days just to give their bodies enough time to adapt to the climate.

Day 6 - Barranco Camp (3,850 m./12,631 ft), through Karranga Camp (3,950 m./12,959 ft) to Barafu Camp (4,600m / 15,091 ft)

On this part of the climbing, there is an elevation gain of 1,295 meters /4,248 feet as well as a descend of 2,785 meters/ 337 feet. The journey takes 6-8 hours which begins at midnight towards the Uhuru peak. This phase is always considered by many as being a bit hard owing to the altitude, low temperatures and walking through the dark. The trek always on a timed pace to ensure you arrive at Stella point at sunrise where you will be welcomed by the beautiful sunrise over the Mawenzi peak. From stella point it is an hour walk to the highest point of Mount Kilimanjaro, the Uhuru peak.

Day 7 - Mweka Camp (3,110 m./10,203 ft) - Mweka Gate (1,830 m./6,000 ft)- Moshi

On this climbing phase the trek will take a gain of 280 meters / 4199 feet. With duration of 2 3 hours from the summit you will arrive at the Mwake gate passing through the green beautiful forest. At this point you will have accomplished your desire of having to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.

Day 8 - Moshi 

After the successful climbing and descending the mountain, one can decide on visiting other nice beautiful places within Tanzania like the Pemba islands and the Mafia Islands which are some of the top exotic islands within the East African region, or even visit the tropical Zanzibar islands on the Indian Ocean.

 

How fit are you supposed to be in order to climb Mount Kilimanjaro using the Lemosho Route? Given the distance one is bound to cover on foot the terrain, number of days approximately 6-7 days, over different temperatures over an increasing altitude. There are several things if put into consideration will help you reach the summit easily without much strain. 1. Always move at a pace that is not so fast as this will give your body time to acclimatize to the temperatures as you climb up. 2. Prior to climbing the mountain, do some exercise to ensure you are fit. You can have some aerobics sessions or jogging to help you keep fit. It’s always hard to tell if one will succumb to altitude sickness. But the good thing is that the Lemosho Route offers a favourable climbing trek owing to the high terrain and the low terrain which gives the body room to adapt.
