Enjoy the thrill of getting up close and personal with the bigger wildlife as well as the smaller bush creatures, on a 1-day game drive in one of Tanzania's national parks. You can visit Arusha National Park or Lake Manyara National Park or Tarangire National Park.
This small but beautiful Tanzanian National Park is the closest national park to both Arusha town as well as Kilimanjaro International Airport, therefore making it ideal for 1-day game drives. The animal life in the park is abundant. You can spot the black-and-white colobus monkeys, hippos, giraffes, buffaloes, bushbucks, hyenas, and leopards. Also, more than 400 species of birds have been recorded in the park, such as pelicans, flamingos, hornbills, fish and snake eagles, and buzzards. The park’s three most significant features include Mount Meru (Tanzania’s second-highest peak), the beautiful Momela Lakes, and the 3km wide Ngurdoto Crater. When the clouds are clear you can even see the snow-capped peaks of the Kilimanjaro.
Lake Manyara National Park is known for its tree-climbing lions, hippo pools, and thousands of flamingos which give the lake a hazy pink tint. Here you can spot fish eagles, elephants, giraffes, and the largest concentration of baboons anywhere in the world. In some parts of the year, this river is the only source of water for miles around, attracting thousands of animals. Lake Manyara is the ideal location for a game drive because of its many ecosystems. It is said to have 11 different systems; the area is a melting pot for all types of animals and plants - with the lake, the rift valley cliffs, groundwater forest, Ngorongoro highlands, and the dry Tarangire system all close by.
This is the sixth-largest national park of Tanzania, located about 120 km southwest of Arusha. It is famous for its large herds of elephants, tree-climbing lions, birding, and authentic safari atmosphere. The landscape and vegetation of the park are incredibly diverse. This park is a little gem, especially when you love elephants. Enjoy the beautiful views over the Tarangire River, where large families of elephants often gather. The perfect spot for a day game drive.
