0 / Person
For the most amazing primate viewing opportunity explore our Zanzibar Jozani forest tour. For those interested in a bit trivia, the 44 sq.km Jozani Forest is the only indigenous forest in Zanzibar. Encompassing 3% of the land mass of the island the forest is part of the Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park, the only national park on Zanzibar. The diverse habitat of the park comprises of grasslands, coral rag forests, salt marshes, groundwater forests besides mangroves which provide sanctuary to an impressive array of flora and fauna.
It is home to 100 tree species including the 200-year-old Mama Mtondoo, a stately mahogany tree and is also the last sanctuary in the world for the rare and endemic Kirk’s red colobus monkey and the Blue Sykes Monkey. Bear in mind that the endangered primates have no resistance to human infections, so be responsible and keep at least three meters distance from the primates. If you have flu or cold-related infections refrain from visiting the park. You can also catch the Bush Pigs, Aders Duiker Antelopes, Elephant Shrews, and Chameleons etc on the fascinating nature trails of the park. Tips- Early morning is the best time to catch views of primates. Unlike humans, they start at the break of dawn!
That’s not all; just a kilometre away is the Zanzibar Butterfly Centre, home to nearly 50 species of butterflies. Unlike the primates they aren’t vulnerable to human infections and so if you are delicate enough you can get a close interaction with them.
